Nuns rack up big win

It was a successful trip to Warwickshire rivals Kenilworth on the weekend, with the Nuns putting together an impressive 83-7 victory over the side that currently sit bottom of the table. In a side with just a few changes from pushing second in the table last week all the way the Nuns were in rampant form notching 13 tries and 9 conversions. James Lloyd and James Moreton started in the pack for Rudi Reid and the suspended Benji Mitchell and in the backline Joe Wilson came in for Mike Volaikisuva. Tries were scored through Ben Dawes notching four, a hat trick for Travis Bennett-Allcock, braces for Tom Aherne and Harry Beverley and one each Tak Chawadya and Jack Iles. Lucas Brindley added 9 conversions to complete the scoring.

It took the Nuns just four minutes to get the first points of the game and it was Dawes who broke from the back of a maul to cross in the corner. He then scored his second and third tries on 11 and then 21 minutes to complete his hat trick with Brindley missing his first three shots at goal leaving the score at 0-15.

Aherne, Beverley, Iles and Bennett-Allcock all scored converted tries in the second quarter of the game as the nuns started to cut loose with tries coming from deep in their own half. The side were showing some lovely support lines to keep possession alive as they made line break after line break.

The half time whistle came with the score 0-43.

To their credit, Kenilworth started the second half well and got a deserved score in the 46th minute after keeping possession for a number of phases to move the score to 7-43.

Any signs of a further come back were extinguished when Bennett-Allcock score in the 50th minute, then Aherne in the 57th and Beverley on 64 minutes. All converted and the score was now 7-64.

The Nuns then added another three tries and two conversions in the final ten minutes through Bennett-Allcock, Chawadya and Dawes finishing off.

A very professional performance from the squad against a side that never gave up, but were never really able to stop or threaten the visitors.

After the game, head coach Huw Thomas added “We asked the players to enjoy themselves but also play to the structure that we have been working hard at all season and they did just that scoring a range of tries and some really good finishes. I feel for Kenilworth as they are having a tough year but we can only worry about ourselves and we did what we asked for. We want to carry on pushing forward and would love to finish in the top half of the table come the end of the season.”
